Howard Gardner had a theory that there were 8 Multiple Intelligences. Below you will find a list of the intelligence each with an activity idea, so that you can cater instruction to meet students needs in a way that is engaging, fun, and different.
Verbal-Linguistic:
- Students will take a vocabulary quiz of terms that are related to the topics that they are learning about in the Ancient Egypt unit.
Logical-Matematical:
- Students complete an activity sheet where they decode a message that was given to them in hieroglyphics.
Visual-Spatial:
- Students can complete a Venn diagram comparing Ancient Egypt and another Ancient Civilization.
Bodily-Kinestheic:
- Have students group up and research the story of either an Egyptian Pharaoh or a God/Goddess. Then have them act out the story to the class, demonstrating what they have learned.
Musical-Rhythmic:
- Give students the opportunity to create a rap or poem about Ancient Egypt. Students can include vocabulary or any information pertaining to what they have learned. Some students maybe shy so only have those who want to present their rap or poem present it for extra credit. Click the button below for an example.
Interpersonal:
- Have students do a "think-pair-share" activity at the beginning of the lesson asking students to think about what they already know about Ancient Egypt and then have them share with a partner or a small group. Ask each group to share with the class what they talked about and record it on a chalkboard, whiteboard, or smart board.
Intrapersonal:
- Have students write a paper on "A Day in the Life of a Pharaoh." In this activity students will write a short paper on what they would do if they were Pharaoh for a day. It might be helpful to give prompts like, "If you were a Pharaoh and the Nile River was flooding how would you handle the situation? How would you help your people?"
Naturalist:
- If your resources allot, have students do an activity where you have everyone research and make a food from Ancient Egypt and have students bring it in to share with the class. This helps students to gain a better understanding of the culture.
Visual Discovery!
